Dell Latitude · Business Laptop Language · Dell

For the third generation of E-Series Latitude laptops, Dell’s business design group wanted to take a closer look at the concept of a frame that is holding a back panel. The design should include the use of authentic materials like aluminum or magnesium. Competing against concepts from multiple designers, this design was chosen for its compelling look and feel.

The magnesium frame of the laptop family is cosmetic and structural at the same time, saving space and weight, making them the most rigid laptops in their class. The large bottom door gives easy access to all configurable components. The brushed aluminum display back panel gives the laptops a cool “metaly” feel.

The elements of this design language drove the design of the entire E6X20 series of Latitude laptops – 12″ to 15″. It also influenced the entry-level tablet and rugged Latitude laptops and will most likely play an important role in the creation of future generations.
